Help car won't start random errors

So I just installed a Whipple kit on the car a few days ago and got the car up and running and took it for a couple test drives. Then this morning I went to leave for work and the car won't start everything has full power even tried to jump it. I just got a message that I need to service power steering, drive carefully. So I popped the hood and sure enough the power steering belt somehow popped off and was a little chewed up. I bought a new one popped it in the car and it fired right up. Drove to work and ran a quick errand on lunch it was behaving as expected. I plugged in an OBDII scanner after parking at lunch and checked for error codes, none. Fast forward to 5pm, went out to car and tried to start it and nothing dead again same error about power steering so I popped the hood and checked the new belt it was there and looked good. I jiggled the tensioner to make sure all was well and tight, got back in the car still nothing. Turned it off and put my tools away and tried one more time, viola it powered up and no power steering message. BUT I was not getting a message about vehicle security disabled and not working. I drove it home and it drove fine save the security message. Parked it and came back out 10 min later, tried starting it up and it fired right up no messages everything great.

Two hours later I came out to see how it's doing and see if there was something physical wrong I could see and things look normal. So I plugged in my MyCalibrator tool from Livernois to read the codes if any and it gave 1 DTC P0513, searching it came up the immobilizer key failure. So now we have a 3rd error in less than 12 hours. I can't even turn the car on enough to try and reflash with the MyCalibrator. Where do I begin? Has anyone seen this one before?

I've seen the multitude of threads on the power steering issue and I don't think this is the same thing 1 since my vin is past the fix date and 2 min happens only when the car is off.

My guess is there is a communication error between modules in the car. The P0513 is indicative of a "key learn" issue, however, it would appear that you are scanning the vehicle with something that only reads "P" codes... P= powertrain codes. The car has likely set B codes (body control), C codes (chassis codes to include the power steering) and U codes... U codes are commincation error codes. The B, C and U codes may not illuminate the check engine light. If I were a betting man, I would say there are some communication codes rolling around in that car... If you could get a complete list of all codes, Could prolly be of more help.

What is your charging system voltage when it was running? Disconnect the battery and charge over night. Then try again tomorrow. And see what the charging system is doing.

The power steering is electric and not hydraulically powered. So the belt runs the A/C, water pump and alternator. B.

Thanks for the quick reply, It makes sense there is something else throwing a code i.e. body or otherwise so I have the HP tuners module that Whipple sent me but it doesn't seem to want to connect and I'm honestly afraid to try and push it to hard to read the ecu since it was flashed with Livernois rom. I'll see if I can get that to read it. If not I may need to run to the autocrats store and get a reader than can do more.

Man I am astounded !!!

1- the SS has electric P/S therefore no engine driven belt. HAHA not gonna get me on "no belt" ...

2- the SS has 2 (TWO) engine driven accessory belts:

- A/C only

- everything BUT A/C

The belt routing is in that FOM and there may be a routing sticker underhood ... too cold to go out and lift the hood and give it a look see.

Thanks for correcting me on that, I did jump to conclusions when I got the error this morning the power steering was out and saw a belt just laying there. Thats what I get for assuming, thanks for setting me straight.

Yeah buddy with you pushing in the body error route I fixed it! Turns out the wire powering the Whipple relay pack was not as tight as it should be! It's the big positive lug next to the fuse box. Uh yeah no power there could pose a problem. Stupid me only finger tightened it and never went back and torqued it down. Just did that and the car fired right up no errors! Now I need to get HP Tuners to read the car it still is saying no way can't read it...

Hope my duh moment this week will help someone else in the future, thanks again for the help.

You said earlier you flashed the Livernois rom. If you did that HP won't work. You need the stock tune reinstalled before HP will read. Did Livernois send you a tune to use with the Whipple?

Yeah I was going to say - more than likely a plug / wire that is loose or not fully seated. This is very common when taking things apart / putting them back together and having an intermittent failure. I used to write technical articles for an OBD code website / ASE certified Master auto tech.

Glad you found it quickly. I understand how frustrating this can be. I had to deal with a similar problem on our 2007 Trailblazer SS - it would die randomly while driving, wait a few hours and it would start back up with no problems or codes. Turned out to be a copper wire inside of the fuse box itself had a break on a bend ( common problem ) that would expand when hot and cut off the fuel supply relay, when it cooled back down the wire would touch itself again. I fixed this with 1 foot of 20 ga. solid copper doorbell wire ( cost 10 cents ) .. go figure.

Glad it appears to have been something simple...Thanks for sharing! While I know I could do the mechanical aspects of a SC kit install, the tuning and potential gremlins that pop up steer me towards a professional installer. Cars are so much better these days but so much more complicated as well...

Yes I've got a Whipple tune from them and it's loaded now. The HP Tuners does work with the Livernois tune installed one verified this already several times. BUT only using it in scanner mode, livernois even send me a cfg file for HPT with the items to monitor. They're all around full service guys, makes me glad I chose going with them. Using scanner mode doesn't even use any credits it's read only.
